Animatic

A collaboration with Yuling - A music video leica reel for the storyboarding class.
Original music: 青花瓷 by Jay Chou.
Wrapped up on 2 Oct 2008.
Video uploaded by Yuling, provided by Youtube.

The original story idea and the song was picked by my partner Yuling. After I joined the production, I contributed some ideas and various small plots to spice the personality of the characters and the main story, as well as finalize the direction.
(Some of my suggestions include: using the Mudan flower hair accessory as the motif; giving the male protagonist a job at the medical hall to give him a background and more personality; letting the main lady character exits the medical hall to suggest her condition, the daydreaming scene to suggest his personality and how much he is thinking about her, the firework scene which I feel brings out more of the celebrative festival that is happening in town and also holds a sub-meaning of the sparks that is happening within them, and the absence of the lady character near the end to suggest her condition.)
A lot of bouncing of ideas took place before we get down to drawing.
The sequence editing is done by Yuling, and the work is finally wrapped up on 2 Oct 2008.
There are still parts and pieces that can be better, but it's a totally wondrous collaborative experience. Definitely learnt a lot from one another.

Some character shapes that I did using the Chinese calligraphy brush in the pre-planning stage. Since there are two of us working on the assignment, we feel the need to make the same characters readable even though the styles are different, without being bogged into overly detailed character design. Which also makes my life easier while doing the street scenes.
